A good present for your mum is the one that reminds her about your love and care for her. It doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive. It definitely shouldn’t be just an enamel pan set or a pressure cooker you bought online. Our mums give us all the tenderness of their hearts – and they deserve much more than a clichéd household appliance. We made up a list of 5 original gifts which could be just what you need for a name day, Mother’s Day, or New Year.
1. A journey
When did your mum last have a true break from her trivial round, felt thrilled and amazed? If that is hard to recall, it’s high time she hit the road. Romantic Paris, a Mediterranean cruise, or just a regular wellness resort on the coast – travel agencies offer trips in all shapes, sizes, and prices.
Traveling is always a whole new experience, regardless of one’s age. Of course, we relax and take pleasure in a change of pace, but there’s more to it: journeys help us to get to know different cultures and lifestyles, sating our natural curiosity.
2. A karaoke machine
Are emotions a good gift? For sure! Your mum will appreciate it! A karaoke machine is a way of real musical therapy. It will help to take load off your mind and turn any night into a bundle of fun and energy. To sing, you don’t need any special skills or intense training. A microphone and enthusiasm will do. Every one of us is able to sing. A couple of songs will be enough for your mum to make sure she’s a great singer.
Aside from an emotional recharge, karaoke is certainly good for your health: it reduces stress, improves your brain capacity and memory, and is beneficial for your mood and overall well-being. Singing gives you a chance to express everything you have in store of your soul and facilitates the production of endorphins. When we sing, we literally get happier. Isn’t it what we all wish for our mothers?
3. A digital photo frame or a photo album
The older we get, the less time we spend with our mothers and fathers, especially when we become parents ourselves and are busy bringing up our own kids. Nevertheless, our mums will always see us as small kids who didn’t even know how to lace our trainers just some time ago. It’s no surprise our parents miss us more than we miss them, and so they often decorate flats with our childhood photos.
Give your mum a digital photo frame with hundreds of memorable pictures and video clips as a present. This will save space on the walls and dressers but bring twice as much joy. Another option could be a hand-made family photo album – inexpensive, but deeply cherished.
4. A creative course
Pottery, amateur theatre, art, or soapmaking – any of these would make a fine gift for your mum. The vast majority of young people discover at least some kind of creative talent in themselves. However, the weight of age, family, and job gradually muffle it and eventually even mute completely. But now, as the kids have grown up and she has more than enough free time, why not to look back on her old hobbies or find something new?
As in case of karaoke, a creative course could relieve stress and ring the changes in life with a meaningful interest. Besides, such a course usually implies getting to know and communicating with lots of new people. Socialization makes us happier. If your mum seems a bit down to you, maybe that’s the case? Maybe she lacks communication?
5. Spa treatment
A monthly spa-pass to a centre with a swimming pool, relaxation therapy, massage, skin cleansing and meditation – this is the key to inner harmony, well-being, and health. Spa-procedures, like chocolate wrap or aromatherapy massage, will be a real energy booster for your mum and will quickly get her back on her toes.
She’ll get rid of chronic fatigue, irritability, and sleep problems. She’ll feel in control of her emotions and mood again. Spa is a perfect place to relax and take all the time we need – the very time we need so badly in our daily life.
Whatever present you choose, if you just call your mum – this will still be the best surprise she can think of. When the whole family gets together at one table for no special reason, nothing comes even close to it. Don’t forget about your parents. Appreciate them. Show them all your love and care.
