Many people have their first karaoke experience at a club or bar. After singing one or several songs on the club stage and having enjoyed the process, they want to try it again at home. However, not everyone is ready to buy a karaoke system right away – most would rather try free karaoke on the Internet. Dozens of channels and websites offer visitors to sing popular songs.
Free karaoke has several advantages we can’t fail to mention:
• The cost, obviously. Or rather no cost at all.
• Availability at any place with the Internet connection and from any device: a smartphone, tablet, laptop, Smart TV.
• Almost no requirements.
Yet, the number of disadvantages the online-karaoke has is way bigger:
• Low track quality. Karaoke systems provide licensed studio backtracks, recorded by the professional musicians. The free karaoke channel will most likely offer you a tune, picked out on the keyboard, or deformed original tracks where the voice was eliminated by a software.
• Lack of equalizer, voice processing, and vocal effects. You sing as it is, without a chance to change a tonality or tempo.
• No scoring of the performance.
• Forget about the latest hits or your preferences. The catalog most likely holds a limited choice of genres and performers.
• The feature set is badly cut. For instance, a karaoke system has a user-friendly search option, customized karaoke display, subtitles setting, the modes of a duet, trio, or quartet, the option to record the performance, and share it with your friends on social media – and much more. There is a good chance that instead of convenient subs you’re going to read the small-type lyrics, placed somewhere besides the player screen.
• And probably the major disadvantage is that you cannot connect a microphone (let alone two to sing a duet) to your smartphone or tablet.
Where can you sing karaoke for free?
YouTube hosts many karaoke channels. To find them, you only need to open the video-hosting website and type “karaoke” in the search line. Even though most popular channels come from the Western segment and largely focused on the English-speaking songs, you’ll have no problem finding the songs in any European or Asian language, be it Korean, Kazakh, Russian, or Ukrainian.
One of the most popular karaoke channels is Sing King. It has almost 8 million subscribers. The new karaoke songs are added every day and it’s really easy to find something that matches your current mood. For instance, the latest pieces by Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, or the classical hits by the Queen are looking forward to your coming up and performing them.
The alternative to the YouTube channels is half-legal backtracks storages. Among them, x-minus.pro, where the users upload the music by themselves. The web-site promises over 400,000 songs but in fact, it has many times fewer records, as the same backtrack can be uploaded several times by different users. It’s no point to mention the quality of the tracks on such sources. The same goes for the copyright of the uploaded tracks – this is the reason why from time to time, the records are deleted due to copyright claims.
Such websites and YouTube channels can distract you from your routine for several hours but you should not expect as much joy and deep emotions as karaoke systems are going to give you. A karaoke system does a much better job of organizing at-home celebrations than any popular web-site with free songs.
