Do you like taking personality tests to learn more about your traits?
“Since it is possible to reveal the secrets of people’s behavior in life with the help of a few questions, why not reveal the secrets of guests’ behavior in karaoke?” we thought, and decided to develop our own karaoke quiz.
Based on our observations and after talking with sound engineers, KJs, and karaoke business owners (we partner with over 5,000 karaoke clubs), we have identified four main types of karaoke goers:
1. The Easygoing “Whatever”
This type waits for their turn without any problems and is absolutely indifferent to the language or genre of the song. Heavy metal easily transitions into chanson, and then into The Cranberries. The main thing is that the song is time-tested and you can relax to it. However, this type doesn’t like singing duets, preferring solo performances for their own pleasure.
2. The Party King
The main stars of any karaoke club. They love being the center of attention. They sing loudly, emotionally, and with full dedication, but they only acknowledge performances on the main stage under the spotlight. They are absolutely impatient when waiting for their turn, so they regularly make “crazy orders” (paid out-of-turn performances).
3. The Crouching Dragon
These guests listen more than they sing, and if they do happen to grab a microphone, they prefer to sing right from their seat in the hall so as not to attract too much attention to themselves. Nevertheless, “crouching dragons” are the most grateful audience in a karaoke club. A good performance (even if it’s their own) can easily bring a tear to their eye.
4. Captain Microphone
The perfectionist of the karaoke world. They sing only proven songs that they perform best. They often rehearse at home in advance and train their vocals to be untouchably good at the club and gather all the applause. In good company, they can sing until morning, but if the evening loses its energy and causes yawns, they immediately call a taxi and leave the club.
The Results of Our Study
In April 2020, we launched the “What type of karaoke singer are you?” test on our official website and invited our social media followers to take it. In two months, more than 4,000 people took the test.
Quite expectedly, the “Easygoing Whatever” type took the lead by a wide margin. This persona represents the core audience of karaoke clubs. These are people who come for a good time with friends, not to level up their vocal skills or boost their self-esteem. They appreciate the fun atmosphere, gladly sing and dance, and do not cause migraines for other guests by ordering the same song for the twentieth time in a row.
The other types were distributed more or less evenly (including by demographics), with the exception of “Captain Microphone”. Statistics showed that women are almost twice as likely (343 vs. 197) to prepare in advance for a party at a karaoke club in order to impress everyone with their perfect performance.
Have a great karaoke time and always get high scores!
